James overseas Lansons public affairs and public policy practice. James was Head of Public Policy at Lansons for 18 months, until August 2017, when he took up a role as Special Adviser to David Gauke, first in the Department for Work and Pensions, and then at the Ministry of Justice. James returned to Lansons after David Gauke resigned from Government in July 2019. While working as a Special Adviser, James worked with senior ministers across Government, including the Prime Minister and Chancellor.
James advises on political risk management and delivery of business goals through public policy. Policy areas of particular expertise include insurance, banking, tax, justice and legal services. Client experience includes Aviva, the British Insurance Brokers Association, Aldermore, Hargreaves Lansdown, Royal London, Santander UK, JP Morgan, The Carlyle Group and Addison Lee. Prior to Lansons, James was a Director in the Public Affairs and Corporate Team at FleishmanHillard. James began his career in the civil service at the Department for Media Culture & Sport, before joining HM Treasury where he ran the Finance Bill team before becoming head of the insurance sector policy team.
