Political Capital: Post-budget Webinar

On Thursday 12 March 2020 our expert Panel presented a live discussion of the first Budget of the Johnson Government and answered questions about what it means for business, the UK and the Conservative’s new coalition of voters.

Webinar Highlights:

Touching on measures to mitigate the spread and economic impact of Covid-19, the rapid and extensive increase in Government spending and what the political fallout of it all may be; the panel – composed of former Shadow Chancellor Chris Leslie, Head of Political Polling at Opinium Adam Drummond and Lead Political Consultant at Lansons James Dowling – offered a concise, in-depth insight into one of the most important financial events of the year.

Chris Leslie has served as an MP for 17 years, working in key roles in the Cabinet Office under New Labour before playing a leading economic role under Ed Miliband as Shadow Financial Secretary and Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury before becoming Shadow Chancellor in 2015. Chris was appointed Economic Spokesman for Change UK after leaving Labour in early 2019.

Adam Drummond works on a wide range of UK and international studies for a diverse range of clients including those in the professional services sector. Adam is also head of political polling and manages Opinium work on elections including the 2019 General Election in which Opinium were the only pollster to correctly and consistently predict the result.

James Dowling is a Board Director and oversees Lansons public affairs and public policy practice. James was Head of Public Policy at Lansons for 18 months, until August 2017, when he took up a role as Special Adviser to David Gauke, first in the Department for Work and Pensions, and then at the Ministry of Justice. James began his career in the civil service at the Department for Media Culture & Sport, before joining HM Treasury where he ran the Finance Bill team before becoming head of the insurance sector policy team.
