Integrating GSK associates

In March 2015, Novartis Oncology acquired GSK Oncology as part of a $16bn transaction between the two pharmaceutical giants.  This was a complex deal involving Novartis acquiring GSK’s oncology business, selling its vaccines businesses to GSK and establishing a joint venture for its OTC business.

Lansons acted as the communications work stream for Novartis as they integrated the GSK oncology business. We operated across two regions and 81 countries, coordinating (and sometimes selecting) local agencies and communicators – we worked with our international network to source on the ground support for some of the key markets.  Our activities included leadership coaching, establishing change agent networks, onboarding events and communications training and toolkits

Lansons played a key role in ensuring that the experience of associates coming into Novartis was as seamless as possible, ensuring that the first impression of Novartis was a strong one. This has helped to retain key talent and even where former GSK associates have opted to leave the business it ensured that they have left with a positive view of the company.
