In the Community

As a growing company with over 100 employees, Lansons takes its responsibilities towards the community and the environment seriously. As such we have a number of initiatives which aim to make a positive impact.

As a growing company with over 100 employees, Lansons takes its responsibilities towards the community and the environment seriously. As such we have a number of initiatives which aim to make a positive impact.

Lansons donates 1% of profits to charity each year. On top of this Lansons has a dedicated team of people - the Charity Committee - who organise a number of fund raising events throughout the year including a Christmas Fair, barbecues and fun runs. Each year people at Lansons are invited to nominate and vote for a Charity of the Year.

In 2008/9 Lansons is supporting the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation.

Childhood Liver Disease – The Facts

  • At least two children are diagnosed with a liver disease every day in the UK
  • More children in the UK are currently diagnosed with a liver disease than childhood leukaemia
  • Most childhood liver diseases are life threatening; all mean a lifetime of care
  • There are over 100 different liver diseases that can affect babies, children or young people
  • For most childhood liver diseases the cause is unknown
  • Liver disease has no cure
  • CLDF is the only organisation in the UK dedicated to stamping out childhood liver disease

Despite the incredible work of the Children's Liver Disease Foundation, there still so much we don’t know about the causes of these diseases. To improve the lives of the youngsters affected and those of the families, there needs to be continued research to find the answer to why their particular disease occurs and how it can be best treated.

Since inception in 1980, the Foundation's record of accomplishment has been impressive. It has funded an important and pivotal study in paediatric liver disease, developed a range of educational programmes and has a support service which is second to none. Quite simply, Children's Liver Disease Foundation makes a difference.

It is the aim of Lansons to make our involvement as dynamic as possible, so as well as giving money we are involved in donations and sponsorship, fundraising events and advising them on PR – giving time and the benefit of our skills.

Lansons and the environment

In addition to supporting charitable causes, we aim to minimise our negative impact on the environment, and in May 2007 Lansons Communications became carbon neutral by offsetting 179 tonnes of C02 for the year 2006/2007. This is offset through various The Carbon Neutral Company projects around the world including Forestry and Technology.

The Lansons Communications Ride2Work scheme  was also launched in 2007, this allows employees to purchase a bike to cycle to work on at a reduced rate. Lansons runs this scheme through Evans Cycles, and cyclists are also provided with secure bike parking, showers and changing facilities and clean towels.

Other environmental measures include:

  • We recycle all paper, plastic, glass and cans, used toner cartridges and mobile phones
  • We buy all our fruit from local suppliers
  • Sandwiches for any in-house lunches are bought from Pret-a-Manger, which believes that we can and should contribute to a cleaner, greener and altogether more sustainable society
  • We do a clothes cupboard clear-out and invite staff to donate those clothes to Oxfam
  • Our old PC’s and screens are given to Computer Aid International
  • We only use Café Direct Fair-trade tea and coffee
  • We are a member of the UN Global Compact
  • We use mains fed water coolers to cut down on waste
  • Our Health and Safety briefings include advice on “being green”, eg switching off computers and lights, which we encourage on an ongoing basis.
